Can gifts
other than cash or checks be made to this campaign?
Gifts may be made in all forms of property other than cash. Gifts of property (e.g., securities, real property, and personal property) are usually deductible at their fair market value when given, not at the original cost to the donor. Since the deduction is based on worth rather than cost, this type of gift is popular and can be very valuable.
There are several distinct advantages to giving long-term securities which have appreciated. Investors receive a tax deduction for the full market value of securities held for over one year, with no capital gains tax on the appreciation. For example, a donor may give a block of stock for which he or she originally paid $5,000. Suppose the stock now has a fair market value of $25,000. Donating the stock to the Siouxland Heritage Foundation will allow the donor to save the capital gains tax on the $20,000 profit – and to deduct the full $25,000 as a contribution. For information about non-cash donations, call 712-279-6174.
Would my
gift be tax deductible?
All payments to the Siouxland Heritage Foundation – a tax-exempt organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code – are fully tax deductible within current legal limits.
Can I spread
my gift over several years?
Donors to the Our New Museum campaign are encouraged to make pledges payable over a period of up to five years. Of course, one-time donations will also be accepted.
To whom do I
make out my payments?
Pledge payments should be made to the Siouxland Heritage Foundation, 2901 Jackson Street, Sioux City, IA 51104.
