Timeline for new museum downtown announced

Sioux City Public Museum officials announced today that plans are on track for the renovation of the new museum site in downtown Sioux City. Construction and renovation of the former J.C. Penney building is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2009. The project will include a facelift of the entire south side of the building, renovation of the interior of the building including permanent and temporary exhibit spaces, and the construction of classrooms. The current archives and collections located in the Pearl Street Research Center will be incorporated into the new facility. The New Museum is projected to open in the summer of 2010. Siouxland Heritage Foundation announces $3 million dollar gift from Waitt Family Foundation
June 26th, 2008

In the first major gift announcement of the Siouxland Heritage Foundation’s “Our New Museum” public capital campaign, the Waitt Family Foundation announced a minimum matching contribution of $3 million at a press conference today. In conjunction with the $3 million donation, the Siouxland Heritage Foundation has agreed to establish the Waitt Challenge Grant, which is designed to inspire contributions and challenge the SHF to raise at least $3 million that can be applied toward the “Our New Museum” campaign.
