Sioux City Public Museum announces skywalk route change

A change to the skywalk system at the former J.C. Penney building and site of the new Sioux City Public Museum was announced today by Steve Hansen, Museum director. The change in skywalk route is part of the construction package that is currently ongoing and ultimately will lead to a dramatic new look for the exterior and interior of the building. The Siouxland Heritage Foundation received word this afternoon that the Vision Iowa Board has awarded a $2 million dollar grant today for the Sioux City Public Museum’s new site in downtown Sioux City. Timeline for new museum downtown announced
November 18th, 2008

Sioux City Public Museum officials announced today that plans are on track for the renovation of the new museum site in downtown Sioux City. Construction and renovation of the former J.C. Penney building is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2009. The project will include a facelift of the entire south side of the building, renovation of the interior of the building including permanent and temporary exhibit spaces, and the construction of classrooms. The current archives and collections located in the Pearl Street Research Center will be incorporated into the new facility. The New Museum is projected to open in the summer of 2010. Siouxland Heritage Foundation announces $3 million dollar gift from Waitt Family Foundation
June 26th, 2008

In the first major gift announcement of the Siouxland Heritage Foundation’s “Our New Museum” public capital campaign, the Waitt Family Foundation announced a minimum matching contribution of $3 million at a press conference today. In conjunction with the $3 million donation, the Siouxland Heritage Foundation has agreed to establish the Waitt Challenge Grant, which is designed to inspire contributions and challenge the SHF to raise at least $3 million that can be applied toward the “Our New Museum” campaign. The non-profit 501(c)(3) Siouxland Heritage Foundation was created to oversee design, construction and fundraising of the new Sioux City Public Museum in downtown Sioux City. Read more...[pdf]
