Help us tell Sioux City’s story! The Sioux City Public Museum has been collecting, preserving, and interpreting regional history for over 100 years.

YOU can support the Sioux City Public Museum in a number of ways.

Membership
Founded to assist in expanding the educational activities of the Sioux City Public Museum, the Sioux City Museum and Historical Association enables the Museum to offer innovative programs and exhibits to the community and thousands of visitors each year.

By becoming a member of the Sioux City Museum and Historical Association, you help the Museum fulfill its mission while enjoying these benefits:

<  A 10% discount in the Museum Store and the Sergeant Floyd River Museum’s Galley Gift Shop.
<  Membership in the Time Traveler Programs gives you discounts to museums all over the country.
< The Associations quarterly newsletter.

Also consider giving the gift of membership.

Become a member (.pdf) by printing out this form and returning it to or mailing it to the Sioux City Public Museum.

Donations
To keep the Museum a vibrant and active organization, support is needed from donors as well as members. All gifts are welcome and go toward the programming and other needs of the Sioux City Public Museum.

Please consider an outright gift to support current projects or a planned gift to ensure the Museum’s long-term stability. For more information on planned giving link to the Leave a Legacy website.

Make History
Volunteer at the Sioux City Public Museum!

Do you enjoy Siouxland history? Like to work with the public? The Sioux City Public Museum needs your help to interpret the history of the Sioux City region to our visitors. Some volunteer opportunities include:

front desk greeter
Volunteers with the Museum Store and Front Desk are an integral part of the Museum visitors’ overall experience. The front desk greeter is the first contact visitors have when entering the Museum. Because many of our guests are from other states and countries, the front desk greet is responsible for making the visitor feel welcome.

Merchandise in the Museum Store is intended to enhance the visitor’s museum experience and help support our future exhibits and educational programs.

Volunteers are needed 9 a.m.– 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays or 1–5 p.m. on Sundays.

gallery guide
Are you interested in Siouxland and Peirce Mansion history? Would you like to learn more and be able to share that knowledge with children and adult visitors to the Museum? Gallery Guides must enjoy working with the public and are responsible for leading our school and adult groups/tours through the Museum. Interested volunteers will have the opportunity to learn about the Peirce Mansion and other aspects of Sioux City’s rich heritage. A few hours of training to need to be completed before becoming a Gallery Guide.

oral history interviewer
Do you like to do historical research and love to ask questions?
Help us uncover and preserve Sioux City history by learning how to do oral histories of our citizens.

archival assistant
A variety of projects are available in our archives. We need help organizing and updating our collections of photographs, manuscripts, clippings, books, oral histories and more.

Support for the regular staff is provided through volunteers provided by the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP). These volunteers provide approximately 4 hours of service a week.
The Sgt. Floyd staff provides training for these volunteers. Duties include greeting and helping the visiting public, phone work, and gift shop sales. No prior experience is necessary, but a general knowledge of Sioux City, it’s history and points of interest are helpful. A volunteer can sign on a regular weekly basis or as a substitute. Contact the Sgt. Floyd staff or the RSVP at 712.252.1861
for more information.
