Sioux City History Projects Reception

Tuesday Twilight Talk: Establishment of the Early Fur Trade in the West

The westward expansion of the fur trade exploded after the Lewis and Clark Expedition, changing the West forever. Learn more about the gear and techniques used by early fur traders to survive in the untamed land and seek their fortunes. Seasonal Yellowstone National Park ranger and North High teacher Tom Roberts will give a 45-minute presentation followed by a question and answer session.

Bill Diamond Antique and Classic Car Show

The Sioux City Museum & Historical Association’s 39th annual car show will feature approximately 50 automobiles and trucks. Admission is free. Those wishing to present their own classic or antique car should have their car at the Sergeant Floyd River Museum and Welcome Center by 11:30 a.m. for placement. This is a Show and Shine event, pre-registration is not required. Concessions will be available. For more information contact the Sgt. Floyd River Museum & Welcome Center at 712-279-0198.
 

Sgt. Floyd Burial Re-enactment

Re-enactors in full dress uniform re-create the 1804 burial of Sgt. Charles Floyd, the only member of the Lewis and Clark expedition to die during the journey. The ceremony includes a description of Charles Floyd and his death, as written in the journals by Capt. William Clark. For more information, contact the Sgt.
